Tagish, Yukon

Tagish is the fastest growing library in the Yukon Territory.

In July 2002 we recieved the following letter:

Thanks to Arrow in the Arctic for your generous contribution of $1,000 to our Tagish Library. As you may be aware, the Yukon Government provides the salary for our Librarian, but our Library Board members must fund-raise any additional money to purchase books for our permanent collections or other items on our "wish list."

We intend to expand our "Northern Women" section. We started this collection of books with Pi Beta Phi's initial donation and are extremely pleased to be able to enlarge it. Many new books have been published on the topic which we would dearly love to add to our shelves. Indeed, we have chosen to expand the general "Northern Books" section in order to appeal to more of our readership.

In 2001 we had a computer donated to us through the Gates Foundation. The expectation was that we use it to provide children's learning tools through the purchase of appropriate software. Some Pi Phi funds helped do this.

Another goal of ours is to enlarge our audio books collection. We have several members of our small community who are legally blind.

Our librarian was recently at a workshop which had material we hope to incorporate into a winter program for our local students, in conjunction with the parents who home-school.

On behalf of our Librarian and Board, we thank you for thinking of us once again. Your donations have played a very important part in the growth of the Tagish Library.
