Arrow in the Arctic is the Canadian Philanthropy of Pi Beta Phi International
Women's Fraternity.
To celebrate the simultaneous Centennials of Canada and of Pi Beta Phi, our 1967 convention in Chicago adopted the Northern Libraries Project as our Fraternity's Canadian Philanthropy. We are the only Greek organization to have our own Canadian philanthropy.
Thanks to the generosity of Pi Phi collegians and alumnae, Arrow in the Arctic continues to make a vital difference to libraries across the vast northern regions of Canada.
Libraries which have recently received donations from the Pi Beta Phi Canadian Philanthropy, Arrow in the Arctic, include Beaver Creek, Watson Lake and Tagish in the Yukon, Yellowknife and Hay River, Northwest Territories; and the Nunavut Public Library Services in Iqaluit. Click here to see a map of the locations.
Tagish - Pumpkins! Because most of the children are home schooled in this area, the Library promotes both literacy and group activities. At Halloween the librarian drove 130 km to get more pumpkins beacuse there were many more children registered than they had anticipated.
Beaver Creek - Was delighted to get a rug for the children's corner as they are on a cement floor.
Watson Lake - After their disasterous fire, they have rebuilt and have used Pi Phi contributions to create a special collection by and about Northern women.
Northwest Territories - The Territory Library System is creating a special mobile collection on alcohol abuse and sexual harrassment. It will rotate throughout the Territory libraries, by plane, on a three month basis.
Nunavut Territory bought two junior encyclopedias
and three easy reading books for each of their eleven libraries, a total of
55 books.
To show your Arrow in the Arctic video at a meeting, please e-mail
giving her a choice of two meeting dates that would work for you. There is no
charge, but we ask that it be returned within three weeks.
In 1967 both Canada and Pi Beta Phi International Womens' Fraternity celebrated
their 100th birthdays. A special Canadian Philanthropy was created to commemorate
this historic event. Pi Beta Phi is the only international Greek organization
to have their own Canadian philanthropy. Click here to

Sending actual books is prohibitively expensive in the Yukon and the Northwest
Territories as everything is shipped air freight. Please focus your fund raiser
on money to be sent to The Canadian Philanthropies. It will then be sent to
individual libraries across the Canadian Arctic to buy things to enhance their
particular library situation.
Thanks for your interest in Arrow in the Arctic. Please call again.
